Webmaster - Bill Lamar


Life:

Bill enlisted in the USMC in January 1968 and reported to USMC Recruit Training Depot, San Diego, CA. Upon completion of recruit training he was assigned the MOS of 6022, Jet Engine Mechanic.

In 1976, he was selected for the Warrant Officer program while serving on Recruiting Duty in Buffalo, NY. After completing the Warrant Officer Screening Course/Warrant Officer Basic School and Aircraft Maintenance Officer School, he was assigned the MOS of 6002/6004. Subsequently, he was transferred to Iwakuni, Japan for an overseas tour.

In 1993, while serving on the Commander Naval Air Forces Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk, VA, he retired with a total of 25 years (USMC and USMCR).

He started his second career in aviation. After working for a few corporations from 1993 to 1997, he started working for FedEx Express in Memphis, Tennessee. He had worked as an Aircraft Maintenance Planner, Aircraft Maintenance Reliability Specialist and a Manager of Aircraft Maintenance Programs. His career with FedEx concluded in retirement after 19 years with FedEx Express.

He has been married for 35+ years to Cherri and is in love with this lady (more today then ever). His oldest son, Michael, retired from the Marine Corps as a MGySgt with 29 years of service. One of his other sons, Bryan, is also a Marine (6 years) and was a ComNavTech on KC-130 Aircraft. Bill and Cherri have two other sons, Ricky and James, 4 daughter-in-laws, Adele, Teresa, Shanen, and Aimee’. They have four grandchildren, Nathen, Cody, Madison, and Maci. Nathen is getting married to Kirsten Mitchell and just gave birth on January 7, 2019 to Ronin Ricky Lamar, our first Great Grandson.

Marine Corps League Profile:

In 2001, Bill assisted in the formation and chartering of MCL Anderson-Jordan Detachment 1078, serving initially as the Adjutant/Paymaster. Subsequently, he has served as the 3rd Detachment Commandant (3 times), Judge Advocate, and many committee chairs. In 2003, Bill was appointed the Department of Mississippi Adjutant/Paymaster. In 2005, Bill was elected as the Department Commandant and served for 3 years. Subsequently, was elected to the positions of Department Judge Advocate and Department Sr. Vice Commandant. Bill was also appointed by the Southeast Division NVC as the Webmaster. In 2018, Bill transferred to the Rocky Mountain Division/Broomfield Detachment 1441 for 6 months. Subsequently, Bill moved back to the Southeast Division in September 2018 and transferred to Cpl Joseph Whitehead Detachment 1370, Gulf Shores, Alabama where he has been appointed as their Web Sergeant. Bill has been reappointed as the Southeast Division Webmaster.
